This year marks 90 years since the formation of the Maidstone Model
Engineering Society and, as part of our 90th anniversary celebrations, we have offered to host the 2019 Southern Federation rally. Fortunately for us this offer was accepted by the Federation and we are pleased to be able to invite all to this rally on the 7th September 2019.
Our club comprises an 1826 foot long, dual gauge, aluminium raised level track in the scenic location of Mote Park in Maidstone. The track and facilities accommodate 3-1/2 and 5 inch gauges of locomotive and, with an
extensive park to explore, traction engines are also most welcome to attend.
As always, a current boiler certificate will be required for all steam engines which are wishing to run at the club.
The track can be a demanding drive, with the climb starting around the first bend. Although varying in grade, the climb stops at the exit of the far end loop before commencing the long drop back to the station. A number of videos of the club an be found on YouTube if you search for 'Mote Park
Railway' or 'Maidstone Model Engineering Society'. Riding trolleys are available for use but owners of small 3-1/2 inch gauge locomotives may wish to bring their own.
Unfortunately, camping on site has not been possible to arrange this year but we can provide a list of local places of accommodation upon request. Food will be provided for visitors at Saturday lunch time and, as we intend to continue running through into the evening, we will send out for fish and chips for those who order in advance in the early evening.
Although the rally is on the Saturday, visitors are welcome on the Sunday as well, although after 2-30pm we will be passenger hauling for the public. Visitors are welcome to participate in this should they wish but spark arrestors will be required for those that do. We will also have people on site preparing on Friday evening should anybody who is staying locally wish to pop in.
With plenty for visitors to the park to enjoy, it's a great location to visit for all the family, regardless of whether or not you are entering.
The entrance for visitors with locomotives can be found at ME15 8JW but if you are visiting just to spectate we would request that you use the public car park, which can be found at MEI5 7SX. A map can be sent out upon request.
If you are able to let us know that you are coming it would be appreciated to assist with catering numbers but it is not essential.
